As a volunteer in the 510-Netherlands Red Cross Initiative, I applied design knowledge and methods to develop an insight database.

510 has done an incredible job conducting many insightful co-design workshops and interviews with refugees and aid workers. Yet the insights and qualitative data need better management because volunteers come and go, sometimes resulting in insufficient handover. Often, refugees and aid workers receive the same questions when a new volunteer comes in.

To reduce the burden on our participants and to find common patterns among fragmented insights from different projects, we started to develop an insight database.

We first reviewed the off-the-shelf platforms for qualitative data management and selected a service that is low-cost, easy to use and covers the functions we need. Then, we developed a framework for the details of the insights to be recorded and a workflow for recording these insights.
